Recently we had client who was going to throw out and replace a batch of their office chairs. “Wait!” we said, “before you do that let us try cleaning them first”. So they did, and they were very glad too because we saved them ££££’s.

Office Chair cleaning techniques

Our dirty office chair cleaning techniques vary depending of the level of soiling and areas to be cleaning. Furniture polish is used to clean the legs and upholstery cleaning solutions for the padded seat and chair back. For heavily soiled or stubbornly stained seat covering material we use hand-held brush-less motor. This gets the job done quickly and efficiently.

As you can see above a bit of dirty office chair cleaning works wonders and can save you money. Not throwing away office furniture just because its dirty is also better for the environment.

Maintenance advice

Here are five tips for keeping your offices chairs clean and well maintained:

  1. Vacuum Regularly: Use a vacuum cleaner, ideally with a brush attachment to remove dust, hairs, crumbs and other debris from the fabric, mesh, or crevices of your office chair. This will prevent dirt from embedding into the material.
  2. Spot Clean Stains: For fabric or mesh chairs, use a mild detergent mixed with water to gently blot out stains from drinks and sweat. For leather or vinyl chairs, use a leather cleaner or a mixture of water and mild soap. Its a good idea to test a small area first to make sure there’s no discoloration.
  3. Wipe Down Hard Surfaces: Clean the armrests, base, and other hard surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid soaking these areas to prevent damage. For stubborn stains and spots, run in a small amount of alcohol with a cloth.
  4. Deodorize: Another good tip is to sprinkle baking soda over the fabric surfaces and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to absorb odours, then vacuum it off. This helps keep the chair smelling fresh without using harsh chemicals.
  5. Lubricate Moving Parts: Don’t forget about the mechanical parts of the chair. Check and lubricate the moving parts such as casters and adjustable mechanisms with a silicone-based lubricant. This helps maintain smooth operation and prolongs the life of your chair.
